What type of therapy does RVPS provide? In terms of psychotherapy, the clinicians at RVPS are trained to perform individual, family, couples, and group treatment for a range of problems. The standard treatment at RVPS is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the name for a collection of interventions aimed at changing both how a person thinks and behaves in order to improve how a person feels. The techniques used in CBT have been tested in hundreds of studies over the last several decades, with the results showing that CBT is very effective for a range of problems. For example, research has shown that, for many people with depression and anxiety disorders, CBT can produce better rates of improvement than medication, with better long-term outcomes and no side effects. CBT has also been shown to be helpful for many types of health problems, such as tics, obesity, and chronic pain, as well as problems in youth, including ADHD and other forms of disruptive behavior. The clinicians at RVPS have speciality training in the treatment of severe anxiety disorders, such as specific phobias and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, as well as treating Tourette's Syndrome and chronic tics. Therapy at RVPS is generally provided for an hour once a week, although in certain cases intensive treatment may be appropriate. The number of therapy sessions varies greatly from case to case, but most people, while experiencing improvement along the way, complete treatment within 12 to 15 weeks.
